Waimea Town is a coastal village located on the west side of Kauai, known as the "Garden Isle". Recently, it has been growing at a very steady pace due to the high-tech industry moving to the area, providing plenty of job growth. Waimea Town has also experienced a jump in housing prices, along with the growth trend. Home prices are generally between the mid $200,000s to the high $700,000s, but there are some over $1 million. With the growing trend of around 8%, home prices will continue to rise in price, which is excellent news for home owners. There are still home sites available for those interested in having a home built.

Public schools for children to attend are: Niihau Elementary School, Waimea Canyon Middle School, Niihau High and Waimea High School. The average teacher student ratio is three students for every teacher. Hawaii Preparatory Academy is an alternative school where children go from kindergarten through grade 12. It’s an independent coeducational school and has many distinctive courses, such as marine science, and sea turtle research. The two year Kauai Community College is nearby, just west of Lihue.

It’s off the beaten pathway and also the gateway to Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park, which makes Waimea Town an exceptional place to live. Waimea Canyon is ten miles long and one mile wide, with a depth of more than 3,500 ft. The canyon was formed from Mount Waialeale's rivers overflowing, which caused flooding to the area. The canyon's walls are lined from lava flow and various volcanic eruptions over centuries of time.

Kokee State Park is where you’ll find Kalalau Valley. It’s known for its breathtaking waterfall, deep valley, and green cliffs. The best time to go is early in the morning. Check with the Ranger's Station at the Kokee Museum for maps and weather conditions before venturing on a hiking trip.

Wilmea Beach is in its own league, with rare black sand and is quite unique with the Banyan and Coconut Trees lining the waterfront. It's also a safe place to swim.
